The Importance To Knowing The Essentials In Web Design

Whether you are planning on doing the web design of your website on your own or if you are planning on hiring someone to do it for you, you need to know and understand the essentials in order to ensure that it is done properly. It is also very important to know if someone will be doing the design of your website for you, as you can be better prepared for the questions they will be asking you about what you want the web site to look like. There are several things that are very important to creating not only an attractive, but also a successful web site. Think about the colour, the balance, the texture, and the overall design of the web site and how they all come together.

The colour of a web site is essential and it is crucial to ensure that the colour does not only match throughout but has a nice flow and does not chase the visitors away. You may think, "How could colour chase visitors away?" Well, it's actually more common than you think. If the web site is too demanding in colour or the colour itself is too intrusive the visitor may be put off. Our eyes have different reaction to different colours, and if the colour is too bright or there isn't enough contrast in the background colour to the text colour it may be not only difficult to read but also painful. So be sure that the colours not only flow together but that there is also plenty of contrast so the text is easy to read.

The second main point to proper web design is having adequate balance in the website. An unbalanced website causes the viewer to not feel at ease and comfortable. It irritates and frustrates them and makes it difficult to view and explore further. Usually if a website is not balanced well they do not stick around to explore further. Balance means, if a large image is placed on the left site of the page, then there should be something similar on the other side, it doesn't have to be directly parallel to it, but in close proximity and of the same size. If its smaller, then it can be placed closer to the centre. When images or boxes of text are placed on either side of the website, just look at it directly and see if you feel like your site is leaning to one side. With that being said, you can also use balance to direct visitors eyes to something you want them to look at, a promotion for instance. This is done by placing a heavier image on one side, with a smaller image closer to the centre on the other. There still will be balance, but the eye will be led towards the larger image.

The last part is texture. Though many don't think about this very often, it is still an essential part to building a proper website. You can apply texture to the background through creative designs that can be either one or two toned, steer clear of multiple toned backgrounds. This gives the viewer more of a 3D feel and pulls them in. Texture can also be applied to the borders of images and even the images themselves. It's a great concept of creating more of a comfortable feeling for the visitor.

Overall, whether you are planning on doing the web design yourself or having someone do it for you, it is essential to understand the process and the important things that will make a difference. This is good to know especially if someone will be doing the designing as you will be able to make sure that you have an idea of what to ask of the designer as well as to ensure that it is done properly and all of the necessary elements are there.
