How to Set Up a Website For Free Step by Step Easily

The first step in making money online or doing anything for that matter as a webmaster is setting up a website. This article is going to explain how to set up a website for free step by step. Note that when I say free I mean free minus the cost of domain and hosting which should only cost you around $10 combined.

The first thing which you need to do is register a domain with a domain registrar company like GoDaddy. This is the URL which your website will be located at. Not only do you have to choose the name but you have to choose your extension for that domain, as well. I recommend going with a.COM unless you have a special need like you're registering a site for an organization (.ORG).



Step number two is to get hosting. Many domain registrars offer hosting, as well. You'll generally be fine when you're just starting out to go with the cheapest option.

Next you have to set up a MySQL database through your hosting provider. This is because to run WordPress, which I'll talk about in a moment, we need a database to run it on. Creating a database is just a matter of clicking "create database" in GoDaddy for example, then choosing a password and login information.

Once your database is set up, it's time to download WordPress. This is a free software which makes interacting with your website as easy as possible from making a new post to changing its look and settings. Download WordPress from the WordPress website and extract the files to your computer as it will be downloaded in zip format.

Once it's been extracted, you just have to edit the wp-config-sample file to reflect the information which you choose for your database. This makes it so that WordPress can interact with your database without issue.

The last thing you have to do is upload WordPress' files (including the newly edited and renamed wp-config file) to your hosting account so that people can visit your website. You can do that using a free FTP program like FileZilla or for free through your hosting provider, as well.

Once those files have been uploaded, visit your new website's URL, choose a login and password for WordPress which you'll use each time you log into your account to make changes and new posts to your site, and that's it, you're done!
