In the world of web design, mistakes are bound to happen. When so many hands are touching one project, miscommunication and failure to meets certain deadlines are often a result. Then, of course, there is also the notion of contradicting thoughts. While the client might have his or her heart set on a certain design aesthetic, the web designer might feel that the design is best approached from an entirely different perspective. When all is said and done, the website design industry is bombarded with some common mistakes.

Let's review some of the most pervasive mistakes in this industry:

Unclear Main Navigation
When a user lands on the homepage of a site, it should be a simple and desirable experience. Chances are, someone has chosen to visit your site because they want something. If the main navigation fails to allow ease of mobility, the user will click away immediately.

Unclear Links:
If you are going to go through the trouble of creating links on your page, they should at the very least be visible in another color. Further, when the user hovers, the link should be evident. So many times, we see that linking is unclear, making for challenging exploration and information attainment.



Over-abundance of Ads
If your site is you're business, that's great! We know you need to make money online, however, an exorbitant amount is uncalled for and irritating. The intrusive nature of these ads will have visitors fleeing faster than they can seek your services. You should view the site and ask yourself, "is this too much?"

Flask Site Intro
As much as a client "believes" that flash intro's are exciting, visitors will just become irritated by this delay. People come to your site to get the "meat and potatoes" of what they need. Flash simply postpones a "need" of a client and deters people from visiting your site, even if the site is great.

Broken Links
When a site visitor is excited about re-navigating to another location on the site, the link should ideally work. When links are broken, yielding that "error 404" prompt, people become confused and upset. This also shows the user that you might not value the user's time and desired service. So, why should he or she value you?

Strange Fonts
Aside from the fonts following the web standards of most commonly used fonts, you will want to exercise cohesion. If you have Verdana in one paragraph, and then Tacoma in another, it makes for a less than desirable (and sloppy) look and feel.
