WordPress Themes - Why Are They Important?

When you are building a WordPress-based niche website, one of the first things you will want to do is find a useful and appropriate WordPress theme. WordPress themes give your website personality. The theme is what can separate your website from the others. You can stick with the default theme that comes with the standard WordPress installation, but why not venture out to find a theme that is flexible, customizable, as well as fun and easy to design? The standard theme, quite frankly, is pretty boring and has its limitations. It is worth it to take the time to explore your options. You will be amazed at how many free WordPress themes there are out there, and then of course, the seemingly unlimited number of paid themes available as well.

Finding a Theme for Your Website

There are several methods you can take in finding the perfect WordPress theme for your website. The easiest, and perhaps the most obvious method, is to do a basic Google search. Add the word 'free' to your search, and you can explore all of the free themes available to save your money and create something unique.

Another way to search for a theme is to visit the WordPress.org website to search the enormous database of themes that are available there. You can look through the most popular themes, or the themes that are ranked the best, etc. You can also type in a keyword in your search, such as 'blue' or 'business' to see what themes pop up that match or relate to the keyword you typed in. You can literally spend hours sifting through the various themes that are available out there. Try not to dwell too much on your search. Pick a few and try them out on your website.

Another good method for exploring theme options is to do so within your WordPress dashboard that's been installed on your website. Once you are logged into your site, scroll down to the Appearance menu option on the left and click on the Themes option. Select 'Install Themes' from the tab at the top of your page, and then perform your search from there. Again, you can search by choosing a Term that you are most interested in, or browse through the Featured, Newest, or Recently Updated themes by clicking on those options near the top.

What to Look for in a Theme

Ultimately, you want to find a theme that is simple to use, but provides a highly customizable platform for design and layout. You do not need a theme with a ton of bells and whistles (such as sliders, or rotating images), but if you can take a theme that has flexible design features and make that website look nothing like the default design of the theme, then you've got a good theme on your hands.

It's not a bad idea to find one or two themes that you really like and use those for multiple sites. Again, if the theme has a ton of design features that will allow you to customize each site so that no two sites look alike, then the theme is worth installing.

Conclusion

WordPress themes can take your website to that next level. They can present a professional look to your site that might otherwise appear drab. You can search through the Wordpress.org database, do a Google search, or browse options within WordPress on your website to find the perfect theme. Separate your niche website from the other niche sites with a good customizable theme that can provide a more polished look than many of the niche sites out there.
