Making My Own Website - 3 Things You Need to Know

When I'm making my own website there's three things that I need to take into consideration. Most people assume that they can just jump right in and build a website. You can make a website but would anybody ever see it? That is what we are going to be talking about, how to get people to be able to find your site on the web.

Choosing a Domain Name- When choosing a domain name there's several things that you need to consider. First, make sure the name you have chosen is relevant to your site. In other words, if your sites about dogs don't let your domain name speak of cats. Keep the name relevant to what your site is about. Secondly, keep it short and simple. The shorter and simpler the name of your site is, the easier it will be for you and your visitors to remember. The third thing is, choose a.com address. It has been my experience that the search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing all the seem to favor a.com address over a.net,.org and so on.

Choosing a Hosting Account- There's several good hosting accounts available to you online, but how do you know which one to choose. They all seem to look alike and offer all the same thing. You need to do a little investigating on the web host that you're planning on choosing to ensure they have excellent support service. If your site was to go down and you could not get them on the telephone, you would be a*mess wouldn't you. This is the single most important thing of a hosting account is to have good support service. You also need to make sure they offer everything you need to set up your site. Call them, get them on the phone, this is the best way to ensure that your site will be well looked after. Once you have chosen your host now you have to choose your plan. Instead of choosing the cheapest plan, most people choose a more expensive plan because they don't know in the future they may need more space for their website. Just use common sense and you'll be fine.

Building Your Website- When you eventually get around to building your website make sure that your side is clean and easy to navigate. Have you ever been to someone's site and you would just get lost because you could navigate through the site easily? What did you do? You left the site right? Always keep a clean, organized and easy to follow site that will be an enjoyable experience for anyone visiting your site. The object is to keep a person on your website for as long as possible and hopefully they will be purchasing something from your site. If they can't find what they're looking for they will go somewhere else.

So when I am making my own website these are just a few tips that should be applied but there are many more things you should know.
